KangaROOS is an American sneaker brand, originally produced from 1979 to the 1980s, whose revival continues today. They were distinguished by a small zippered pocket on the side, large enough to hold a small amount of money, keys, etc. The KangaROOS were designed by American architect and jogging enthusiast Bob Gamm. Gamm, a keen runner, covered ten kilometers a day but preferred lightweight, pocketless sportswear. He designed these sneakers for his personal use, to store his keys and money, and then successfully marketed them. His marketing concept was a success, with sales of over 700,000 pairs per month in the early 1980s.
