After the revelation of a city-pop coded sneaker release with Hiroshi Nagai, Mizuno now unveils another trio of sneakers that nod to its Japanese roots. The latest Kizuna pack features a wagashi (Japanese candy) theme, with each silhouette taking inspiration from a different variation of the traditional handcrafted confection. Often served with a cup of green tea, wagashi are typically made with plant-based ingredients, coming in the form of simple ball-shaped dumplings or beautiful, delicate neikiri wagashi that mimic scenes from nature.
The “Wagashi” sneaker pack includes a City Wind Mid, a Wave Rider Beta and a Contender model, all rendered in a dominant pastel shade and punctuated with white and black accents. Another feature that is consistent between all three sneakers is that the Mizuno logo adorning the lateral sides all feature a black “India Ink” colorway. Each shoe is inspired by a different type of neikiri wagashi, expressed through its unique blend of colors and patterns on the tongue. On the back of the sneakers are embossed foxes representing the Kanji characters for wagashi. Available at Shop & Online
